Meeting with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen in Amman

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, the president of the Southern Transitional Council, Aydarus Al-Zubaydi, met with UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, in Amman. At the UN office in the Jordanian capital, both politicians discussed options for peace in Yemen and Martin Griffith’s current efforts to end the crisis in Yemen.

The Southern Transitional Council was pleased about Martin Griffith’s openness and understanding of the southern cause. Al-Zubaydi welcomed the intention of the UN Special Envoy to involve the Southern Transitional Council in future peace talks under UN mediation. The Southern Transitional Council is willing to participate in talks that will set the framework for peace negotiations for Yemen, Al-Zubaydi said. In addition, the president of the Southern Transitional Council emphasized that the council will continue to strengthen dialogue with South Yemeni forces.

In the next month, further meetings between the Southern Transitional Council and Martin Griffith are planned in order to discuss the developments in Yemen and the cooperation between the United Nations and the Southern Transitional Council on proposed solutions to the war.
