Meeting of representatives of the STC and the WHO in Geneva
[8 May 2019] STC Representative in Geneva Abdul Rahman Al-Musibli spoke to Dr. Raman Velayudhan, Coordinator for Vector Ecology and Management in the World Health Organization’s Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases, on the worsening health situation in South Yemen. Al-Musibli gave an overview of the spread of epidemics, such as cholera, dengue fever and typhoid, which have caused many fatalities, especially among children. Al-Musibli asked the representative of the WHO to work together to develop a plan to fight the spread of epidemics and to provide the needed medicinal products and supplies. Moreover, Dr. Jibril Francisco, WHO Coordinator for Yemen, was present at the meeting. Both sides agreed on the cooperation of medical task forces, the coordination of supply hospitals and health centers with medicinal products, and the collaboration on vaccination and awareness campaigns.
